
Pack Returns Home to Host Boston College, Syracuse

RALEIGH, N.C. – After a road conference trip last weekend, the NC State volleyball team returns home to host Boston College and Syracuse. The Pack take on Boston College Friday, Oct. 25 at 7 p.m. followed by a 1 p.m. matchup with Syracuse on Sunday, Oct. 27. Both matches will be available on ACCNX.
NC State (8-12, 3-5 ACC) is coming off a 1-1 weekend, defeating Virginia in four sets and dropping a match to third-ranked Pitt. The Pack led in nearly every statistical category against the Hoos, highlighted by Jessica Kemp's 14 kills and five blocks. Melissa Evans also contributed a double-double with 12 kills and 10 digs.
The Pack currently ranks second in the ACC with 14.97 digs per set, led by Kaylee Frazier's 4.30 per set which ranks third among conference opponents. Evans leads the conference with 289 total kills this season, including 3.66 per set.
PROMOTIONS
- Friday's match is the NC State HOWL-o-ween. Fans are encouraged to dress in costume and pick up a free trick-or-treat bag at the marketing table (first 200 fans).
- Sunday serves as the Pack's annual Pink Match, sponsored by UNC REX Healthcare. Free pink beanies are available for the first 200 fans.
- The Pack will also be hosting a free post-game clinic following the conclusion of Sunday's match. Sign up for the clinic is available here.
SCOUTING BOSTON COLLEGE
Boston College entered ACC play with an impressive 11-4 record and has continued its strong season, sitting at 6-2 in ACC play. The Eagles opened ACC play with a 5-0 start, the best in program history. Already with six conference win this season, it is the most single-season ACC wins in school history.
The Eagles are coming off a big five-set victory against Miami, the first for the team since 2007. Boston College is 5-1 in five-set matches this season. Against common opponents, NC State and Boston College hold the exact same record (2-2) against Virginia, Pitt, Florida State and Miami.
Freshman Jewel Strawberry was a team-best 3.33 kills per set while junior Amaka Chukwujekwu ranks second in the ACC and ninth nationally with a .431 hitting percentage. Chukwujekwu also leads the team with 1.18 blocks per set.
SCOUTING SYRACUSE
The Orange are looking for some important ACC wins this weekend as the currently sit at 5-10 overall and 2-6 in conference play. Syracuse faced a tough non-conference schedule, including meetings with Baylor, Marquette, Arizona and a sweep against Kansas. The Orange's two conference wins came against Clemson and Virginia.
Syracuse is led by 2019 ACC Freshman of the Year and All-American, Polina Shemanova. Shemanova ranks 11th nationally and leads the conference with 4.65 kills per set. Additionally, she is fourth in the ACC with 0.38 aces per set while Marina Markova is third with 0.46.
The Orange rank fifth in the conference with a .233 hitting percentage.
THE SERIES
NC State has won the last three consecutive matchups against Boston College, including 10 of the last 11 while holding a 12-9 advantage in the all-time series. The Pack is 10-3 all-time against the Orange.
Last year, NC State defeated Boston College, 3-1, in the lone meeting between the two teams. The Pack had two meetings against Syracuse, ending the season strong with a dominant 3-0 win over the Orange in November, sweeping a team who would advance to the NCAA Tournament weeks later.
Jade Parchment earned ACC Freshman of the Week honors following the second meeting between NC State and Syracuse last year. Parchment had 19 kills with a .293 hitting percentage and 11 digs.
