GREENSBORO, N.C. – NC State women's cross country's Kelsey Chmiel was named ACC Women's Freshman of the Week for the third time this season, as announced by the league office Wednesday morning. The Wolfpack rookie has garnered the conference honors following all three of NC State's regular-season meets during the 2019 campaign.
Chmiel placed 34th overall against some of the nation's best at the Nuttycombe Invitational last Friday. Her 20:35.6 6K time was the fastest posted by a true freshman at the meet. Chmiel was the third NC State scorer to cross the finish line, and she helped to pace the Wolfpack women to a third-place finish as a team in a deep field that featured 20 ranked squads.
The Saratoga Springs, N.Y., native has been a major contributor to NC State's scoring this season, as she has ranked among the top three Wolfpack finishers at every meet in 2019.
NC State is set to open postseason action next week as it heads to Blacksburg, Va. for the 2019 ACC Cross Country Championships on Nov. 1. The men's race starts at 10 a.m., with the starting gun for the women's race set to go off at 11 a.m. Both races will be broadcast live on ACCNX.
