
Aislinn Konig Named to Drysdale Award Watch List

Annual award recognizes the top shooting guard in women’s college basketball

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Senior guard Aislinn Konig of the NC State women's basketball team has been named one of 20 Watch List members for the 2020 Ann Meyers Drysdale Award, an annual honor that recognizes the top shooting guard in women's college basketball.

A combo guard at NC State who plays both the point guard and shooting guard positions, Konig enters her senior season having set new NC State three-point records in two consecutive seasons. The Vancouver, B.C., native made 91 three-pointers during the 2017-18 season and followed this up with 93 during the 2018-19 season. The previous mark of 90 had been held by Jennifer Howard since the 1995-96 season. At 214 made three-pointers for her career (88 games played), Konig ranks fifth in program history. Howard holds the top mark of 315.

A Preseason All-ACC Team selection by the league's head coaches, Konig shot 40.1 percent (93-of-232) from distance during the 2018-19 season and is operating at a 36.7 percent success rate (214-of-583) for her career. During the 2018-19 season, Konig averaged 3.8 assists per game. For her career, she is averaging 2.9 per contest and an assist-to-turnover ratio of 1.78. Her scoring average has improved during each of her first three seasons, going from 7.1 ppg (freshman), 10.3 ppg (sophomore), to 10.7 ppg (junior). For her career, she is averaging 9.8 points per game.

The selection committee for the Ann Meyers Drysdale Award is composed of top women's college basketball personnel including media members, head coaches, sports information directors, and Hall of Famers. New to the award this season is fan voting in each of the three rounds. By mid-February, the watch list of 20 players will be narrowed to 10. In March, five finalists, will be presented to Ms. Meyers Drysdale and the Hall of Fame's selection committee.
