PITTSBURGH – The NC State volleyball team was unable to slow third-ranked Pitt, Sunday afternoon as the Panthers came out with a 3-0 win. Jade Parchment led the Wolfpack with seven kills followed by Lauryn Terry's five. Jessica Kemp had a team-best three blocks while Parchment and Kaylee Frazier both tallied seven digs.
Pitt (19-1, 8-0 ACC) was led by Stephanie Williams who recorded eight kills.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Following a challenging first set, the Pack came out strong to open the second. NC State took a 2-0 lead thanks to a kill from Pam Chukwujekwu and Grace Irvin's 24th service ace of the season. Back-to-back kills from Melissa Evans gave NC State a 4-1 lead before Pitt started chipping away.
A big block from Kemp and Nina Sharpton held the two-point advantage before NC State lost a tough challenge that shifted the momentum toward the Panthers. Pitt scored four unanswered points for a 9-7 lead. Kills from Terry twice put the Pack within one, before they tied the match at 11 on a Pitt attack error.
Still tied at 13, Pitt then went on a 9-1 run that put them ahead 22-14 and the Pack would be unable to close the gap. NC State looked to extend the match in the third set, trying to become only the second ACC team to win a set against the Panthers, but were unable to do so following a quick 6-1 start from Pitt that the Pack could not come back from.
