RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State volleyball team swept ACC-foe Miami for the first time since 2010 with a dominant performance Sunday afternoon in Reynolds Coliseum. The Pack led in every statistical category including a season-best .312 hitting percentage as a team.
Jade Parchment led the way with a career-best .500 hitting percentage, totaling 12 kills with just two errors. The sophomore was joined in double-digits by Melissa Evans and Jessica Kemp, who each tallied 13. Kemp also tied a season-high six blocks while Evans had five. Additionally, Lauryn Terry contributed nine kills.
Nina Sharpton distributed the offense with 35 assists, averaging 11.67 per set, while Kaylee Frazier led the defensive efforts with 12 digs.
HEAD COACH LINDA HAMPTON-KEITHS THOUGHTS
"We've had a lot of injuries. We've had to move a lot of pieces around. We're still in that process of trying to find that right combination and having a consistent performance like today just solidifies that. Today there were some times where Jess (Kemp) was in the middle, sometimes she was on the right. The fact that she can be called upon to give the team whatever we need in those moments, that what was a really big moment for us today."
HOW IT HAPPENED
NC State (7-11, 2-4 ACC) took control early in the first set and didn't never relinquished the lead. With the first set knotted at seven, the Pack took a 13-7 lead with six unanswered points behind Kaylee Frazier's serve. The consistency continued, hitting .303 as a team with a 72 percent sideout rate. Parchment was nearly perfect in the first set, going 5-for-6 without a hitting error.
The Hurricanes took the 2-0 lead to open the second set with back-to-back kills, before taking a 6-3 lead. Miami (7-7, 3-3 ACC) couldn't keep its offense consistent, hitting just .125 in the set. The Pack came back to take the lead, 10-9, following three-straight kills. Miami would tie it once more at 12 before three unanswered points for NC State put them ahead for good.
NC State played from behind in most of the third set, where the Hurricanes hit .393 as a team. Miami held a lead as large of five at one point, 16-11. NC State inched within one point thanks to three kills and two blocks. A Miami service error, NC State block and kill from Parchment was all it took to give the Wolfpack back the lead, 21-20. Out of a timeout and tied at 23, Kemp put down a kill before the 10th and final block of the day for NC State clinched the sweep.
