ATHENS, Ga. – The NC State divers wrapped up their second day of competition at the Georgia Diving Invitational highlighted by two top-five finishes as Holt Gray (three-meter) and Madeline Kline (one-meter) made appearances in the finals sessions of their respective events Saturday.
QUOTING THE COACH:
Head diving coach Yahya Radman
"Today was a really fun day. We had two divers in the finals, and the highlight was really just watching our divers step up to the plate. It was fun to watch Holt and Madeline develop into leaders on the team. Holt's new dive, which he just learned, went for 71 points. For Madeline, she changed one of her dives in the middle of the event on the board, and there are only a handful of girls in the country who can do that dive on the one-meter board. This bodes well for her and for our plan moving forward."
After finishing 12th in the morning's three-meter prelims, Gray moved on to the finals for the second day in a row at the Georgia Diving Invitational. The Wolfpack sophomore ultimately notched a fifth-place finish with a score of 353.75, a three-meter personal best. Gray hit 71 points on his final dive of the outing for one of the highest-scored dives of his career.
Kline also reached the finals, competing on the one-meter board. She posted back-to-back season bests during Saturday's sessions, and her Zone mark of 281.65 in the finals was good for fifth place overall.
With their finishes in the finals, Gray and Kline will join each of the top-six divers from their respective events for the Bulldog Shootout on Saturday evening. The event involves head-to-head matchups, with the diver earning the lowest score eliminated after each round until there is one winner.
Also in action for the Pack, Stewart Spanbauer finished just outside of the top 12 during the three-meter prelims, checking in at 14th with a score of 297.30. James Brady placed 17th in the prelims with a 292.70 mark.
On the women's side, Taylor Bennett (226.45, 26th place), Michelle Schlossmacher Smith (222.10, 29th place) and Bailey Revels (187.30, 40th place) also represented the Wolfpack.
NC State wraps up competition at the Georgia Diving Invitational on Sunday as both the men and the women compete on the platform beginning at 10 a.m.
