#9 Wolfpack Defeats Duke to Remain Perfect

NC State ties best start to a season in program history

RALEIGH – The ninth-ranked and unbeaten NC State women's basketball team (14-0, 1-0 ACC) continued its perfect start to a season on Thursday night by defeating Duke 63-51 on Kay Yow Court inside James T. Valvano Arena at Reynolds Coliseum. The win tied NC State's best start in program history, a 14-0 mark set by the 1999-2000 team.
NC State led for 29:59 and earned a 47-31 rebounding edge on an evening when four Wolfpack players scored in double figures. Aislinn Konig and Grace Hunter tied for a team-high with 14 points while Erika Cassell and Elissa Cunane each chipped in 11. Senior DD Rogers pulled down a game-high nine rebounds.
Duke's Haley Gorecki led all players with 19 points on 5-19 shooting. She was joined in double figures by teammate Mikayla Boykin (13 points on 5-13 shooting).
Postgame Notes
-NC State has won five of the last six games against Duke, including three in a row in Raleigh.
-Coach Moore is 5-2 against Duke at NC State.
-NC State allowed the fewest points scored by Duke this season (51) and held the Blue Devils to their lowest FG percentage of the season (.291).
-NC State had four players in double figures for the sixth time this season.
-NC State out-rebounded its opponent for the 13th time this season.

After looking up at a 29-29 tie at the halftime break, NC State went on a 14-2 run over the first 7:31 of the third quarter to take a 43-31 advantage. The Blue Devils chipped away at this lead, scoring the final 10 points of the quarter to pull within two (43-41) with just 10 minutes remaining.
A three-pointer by Gorecki 25 seconds into the fourth quarter gave the Blue Devils a 44-43 advantage, but Hunter and Cassell hit important shots to reclaim the Wolfpack's lead. As NC State led 48-46 with 4:53 remaining in the contest, the Red & White found another gear and went on an 11-0 run to claim a 13-point (59-46) advantage with 1:28 to go.
NC State returns to action when it visits Boston College on Sunday, January 6. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 pm with live video coverage provided by ACC Network Extra/WatchESPN.
