Wolfpack falls to the Midshipmen

LINCOLN, Neb. – Despite career-highs from Emily Fisher and Claire Spina, the 13^th-ranked NC State rifle team came up short in its first action of 2019, as No. 8 Navy fired a score of 4644 to best the Wolfpack's score of 4625 Saturday afternoon inside the Nebraska Rifle Range.

The Midshipmen earned a team score of 2299 in smallbore and a 2345 in air rifle to log its aggregate total, while the Pack shot a 2288 in smallbore and a 2337 in air rifle.

NC State moves to 3-5 on the year and 2-5 in Great America Rifle Conference (GARC) matches, while Navy improves to 8-4 and 4-2 against conference opponents.

Smallbore Notes
- Spina led all shooters in the smallbore competition with a career-best score of 583. The senior logged two perfect series in the prone position and a 98 in her first series in kneeling.
- Fisher tallied NC State's next-highest mark with a 574, a career-high for the freshman from Fairfax, Va. She notched a perfect first series in prone and a 99 on her second series.
- Will Marciniak notched a score of 566, while Aron Tinter finished right behind him with a score of 565.
- Claire Zanti logged a perfect second series of prone en route to earning a 564. Zach Eisenberg rounded out the lineup with a score of 560.

Air Rifle Notes
- With a score of 587, Spina also led the way for the Wolfpack in air rifle and finished third in the overall competition.
- Fisher took fifth with a 585 thanks to score of 99 on her first, third and fifth series.
- Marciniak and Eisenberg fired scores of 583 and 582, respectively.
- Tinter achieved a mark of 576 and Zanti charted a 570.

Aggregate Notes
- Spina was the top individual performer in the match with an aggregate score of 1170, a personal record for the senior.
- Fisher matched her career-high with an 1159 to finish fourth in the individual standings.
