Wolfpack Volleyball Alum Megan Cyr to Play in 2018 FIVB Championships

Former NC State All-American to represent her country
RALEIGH, N.C. – Former NC State All-America setter Megan Cyr will represent Team Canada in the upcoming 2018 FIVB World Championships held September 29 – October 20 in Japan.
Canada is in Pool B with Turkey, Italy, Cuba, China and Bulgaria. The Canadian team qualified for the World Championships after taking gold at the NORCECA Senior Women's Continental Championship in Langley, BC, in 2017.
The world's best 24 teams will be in Japan following a qualifying process, which started in 2016. The 24 countries competing in the 2018 FIVB Women's World Championship are split according to the following: South America (two), Asia (five), Europe (eight), Africa (two) and NORCECA (seven).
The teams have been divided into four pools of six teams playing in a round-robin system with the top four teams in each pool advancing to the second round. The tournament will take place across four cities, with Canada's pool B in Sapporo for the first round.
Cyr, a native of St. Andrews, Manitoba, was a three-year standout and starter at setter for the Wolfpack. She was a captain on the 2012 squad and helped lead NC State to the NCAA Championships for the first time in 25 years.
She was tabbed an AVCA All-American and All-ACC selection as a senior in 2012, recording 1,293 assists during that season. She owns the most career assists by an individual in the rally-scoring era with 3,660, which is the third most all-time in the Wolfpack record books.
Cyr played every point in all 357 sets and 96 matches during her three seasons and the Pack improved each year. She helped guide the team to back-to-back 20-win seasons as a junior and senior and helped the Pack to a fourth-place finish and its first winning record in ACC play since 1988.
