September 24, 2018
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Sophomore goalkeeper Leon Krapf of the NC State men's soccer team (6-1-0, 1-1-0 ACC) has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday afternoon.
Krapf made three saves as the 18th-ranked Wolfpack recorded a 1-0 shutout victory over visiting 14th-ranked Virginia Tech on Sept. 21 for its second ranked win of the season. One of the sophomore's biggest saves of the evening came in the 84th minute when he stopped an attempt from very close range by Virginia Tech's leading scorer Kristo Strickler.
Monday's award marks Krapf's second ACC Defensive Player of the Week award in his young career, as he earned the same honor on Sept. 11 of the 2017 season after making five saves in a win over No. 3 Clemson.
Through seven matches this season, Krapf has made 18 saves, recorded four shutouts, and allowed just five goals in 643 minutes for a goals against average of 0.70.
