NC State Volleyball Takes Down Notre Dame 3-1 for First ACC Win

RALEIGH, N.C. – Highlighted by a season-high 94 digs in a stellar defensive effort, the NC State volleyball team came away with a 3-1 (25-23, 25-22, 22-25, 25-22) win against Notre Dame Fighting Irish Sunday afternoon inside Reynolds Coliseum. Each set was decided by three points or less and the match featured 29 ties and 16 lead changes.
Senior libero Makenzie Kuchmaner broke the program's rally-scoring era record for digs in a four-set match with 32. That total is also the most digs by any player in the ACC this season. The Waxhaw, N.C., native tallied 28 digs in Friday's match to finish the weekend with 60 digs, averaging 7.5 digs per set.
NC State moves to 7-5 on the year and 1-1 in ACC play, while Notre Dame is also 7-5 with an identical 1-1 mark in league action.

- Facing one of the conference's best defensive teams, NC State recorded more blocks (10-8), more digs (94-86) and held Notre Dame to a lower team attacking percentage (.218-.164).
- The Fighting Irish entered the matchup as the ACC leader in each of those categories.

- Notre Dame pulled ahead 16-11 in the first set, but NC State rallied to trim the lead to 18-17 after back-to-back kills from Teni Sopitan to force a timeout by the Irish.
- After the Irish took a 22-19 lead, the Wolfpack answered with five consecutive points to take a 24-22 lead and closed out the set, 25-23, following a kill from Lauryn Terry.
- The second set was tight until NC State won four straight rallies to grab a 21-16 advantage.
- A kill from Melissa Evans gave the Pack the 25-22 set win.
- Notre Dame finished strong down the stretch in the third set to force a fourth set with a 25-22 win. Kills from Evans and Teni Sopitan cut the Irish lead to 23-22, but a pair of Notre Dame kills followed to close out the frame.
- With the Fighting Irish looking to force a fifth set with a 22-19 advantage, NC State countered with a 6-0 run to win the fourth set, 25-22, and the match 3-1.
Top Performers
- Sopitan led a balanced attack for the Wolfpack with 18 kills, which tied for the match-high. Evans tallied 17 kills, while Parchment contributed 15.
- At setter, Kylie Pickrell led all players with 52 assists and collected 10 digs to record her second double-double of the weekend.
- In addition to Kuchmaner's 32 digs, Grace Irvin added 13 and Kaylee Frazier pitched in with 12.
- Terry contributed six blocks to lead all players in the contest.
