RALEIGH – Senior Naomi Ko of the NC State women's golf team will represent her home country of Canada this week at the 2018 World Amateur Team Championships in Ireland.
This is the second time she has been chosen to play for Canada, as she competed in the 2016 WATC in Mexico. The women's portion of the event will take place at Carton House (near Dublin) from Aug. 29 to Sept. 1.
Since the WATC began in 2012, NC State has had six players make a total of eight appearances in the prestigious event. Ko is just the second to compete in multiple events.
Past World Am competitors include: Augusta James (2012, 14), Brittany Marchand (2014), Rachael Taylor (2016), Leo Bettel (2016) and Lea Klimentova (2016).
A total of 59 countries will compete in the event, as each team has two or three players and plays 18-holes of stroke play for four days. In each round, the total of the two lowest scores from each team constitutes the team score for the round. The four-day (72-hole) total is the team's score for the championship and will take home the Espirito Santo Trophy.
