Evans, Pickrell Named to Wolfpack Classic All-Tournament Team

Wolfpack duo recognized for strong weekend
RALEIGH, N.C. – After turning in a pair of strong performances on opening weekend, NC State volleyball's Melissa Evans and Kylie Pickrell have been named to the Wolfpack Classic All-Tournament Team.

The Wolfpack finished second in the tournament with a 1-1 record, including a win against VCU and a loss to Washington State on Sunday. WSU won the tournament with a perfect 2-0 mark and VCU was 0-2.

All three teams that participated in the event advanced to the NCAA Tournament last season with Washington State and NC State each advancing to the second round.

Evans led the Pack with 29 kills over the weekend, averaging 3.22 kills per set. The sophomore tallied 20 kills in the season opener to lift NC State to the victory and nine kills in Sunday's loss to Washington State.

Pickrell handed out 73 assists in the Wolfpack Classic, averaging 8.11 assists per set. She had a double-double against VCU with 41 assists in 13 digs. On Sunday, the Wolfpack's senior setter collected 32 assists to go along with six digs.

Washington State's All-American Taylor Mims was named MVP of the tournament, while McKenna Woodford and Alexis Dirige also garnered all-tournament team honors. For VCU, Dajah Ard and Jasmin Sneed claimed the mention.

NC State returns to action next weekend when the squad travels to Dallas, Texas for the SMU DoubleTree Classic. The Wolfpack begins play in the tournament against the host Mustangs at 1:30 p.m. Friday afternoon.
