RALEIGH – With its season opener just two days away, the NC State women's soccer team enters the 2018 regular season ranked in two preseason polls. The Wolfpack ranks 16th on TopDrawerSoccer and 20th on United Soccer Coaches.
The squad also has two featured on TopDrawerSoccer's Top 100 Players to Watch List, as 2017 All-ACC selections Tziarra King and Ricci Walkling check in at No. 28 and 58, in respective order.
The Pack finished the 2017 season among the national polls, ranking 16th on TopDrawerSoccer, 21st on United Soccer Coaches and 23rd on Soccer America.
NC State lost just one starter from last season due to graduation, as seven freshmen and one sophomore transfer make up the team's newcomers this season.
After a breakout 2016 season, NC State continued its success with a historic 2017 campaign. Along with finishing among the top 25 in all three final national polls, the Pack finished the 2017 season with a final RPI of #23, setting its best mark in program history and making a 197-spot improvement from 220th in 2015.
The Pack concluded its season with a run to the NCAA Second Round and a 15-5-2 record, marking the most wins for the program since 1995. The year was highlighted by a third-place finish in the ACC regular season standings with a 6-3-1 record, and the program's first ACC Championship semifinal appearance since 1995.
NC State clinched back-to-back ACC Tournament berths for the first time since 2003-04 and earned consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances for the first time since 1995-96, including hosting the first ever NCAA home match at Dail Soccer Stadium (a 4-1 win over Arkansas).
The Pack opens its season Thursday when it travels to Navy for an 8 p.m. match at the Glenn Warner Soccer Facility. The contest will be streamed on the Patriot League Network.
