RALEIGH –Jennifer Patrick-Swift has inked her first student-athlete at the helm of NC State's softball program, as incoming freshman April Visser signed a financial aid agreement on Friday to join the Wolfpack.
"We're thrilled that April is our staff's first Wolfpack commitment," said Patrick-Swift. "Her physical skills on the field are stellar, but it's her uncanny ability to anticipate the game that takes her physical skills to another level. She's going to set a high-standard work ethic that will help raise the bar for the entire program both on and off the field. I can't wait to see her at Dail Stadium in Wolfpack red!"
Visser hails from West Herriman, Utah, and played at Herriman High School under Heidi McKissick. Throughout her career she compiled a .523 batting average, .603 on-base percentage and 1.120 slugging percentage. She additionally tallied 160 hits and 146 runs, including 44 home runs, and drove in 147 RBI.
This spring she led her team to a UHSAA State Championship title and 22-10 record, and in 2017 the Mustangs went 24-10 to clinch a regional championship and 5A state playoffs appearance.
"Change is good. I'm excited to come to NC State to play ball and win some rings with the Wolfpack," said Visser. "I look forward to meeting the team and seeing the amazing campus! I'm glad NC State is going to be my home away from home and I can't wait to see what North Carolina has in store for me."
As a junior and senior she garnered First Team All-State honors and was named Region Most Valuable Player both years. In 2018 she was tabbed MVP by Deseret News Sports, a Second Team All-American by MaxPreps and Female Athlete of the Year at Herriman High.
In her final season she turned in a .568 clip with 54 hits and 49 runs, a .664 on-base percentage and 1.273 slugging percentage. Visser also stole 22 bases in as many attempts and belted 17 homers.
Visser additionally played for the Utah Firecrackers Rollin travel team under Fred Rollin. She collected Mountain Region All-America honors in 2017 as she helped her squad to the Premier Girls Fastpitch National Championship title.
