RALEIGH, N.C. – NC State punter A.J. Cole III has been named to the preseason watch list for the 2018 Ray Guy Award, which honors the nation's top collegiate punter. A four-year starter for the Wolfpack, Cole is one of 28 candidates nationally.
Â
Cole enters his senior campaign with the third-best career punting average in school history (42.2) and also ranks fifth in school history with 171 career punts and 7,212 career punting yards. Last season, he ranked 25th in the FBS with a 43.7 punt average for the season - the fifth-best single-season mark in school history.
Â

Among the statistics used to identify the winner is net punting average, number of times punt is downed or kicked out of bounds inside the opponents 20-yard line, total yardage punted, average returned yardage and percentage of punts not returned with particular emphasis placed on net punting average. The winner must display team leadership, self-discipline and have a positive impact on the team's success.
