RALEIGH – The NC State women's golf, women's tennis and women's swimming and diving programs have received a Public Recognition Award from the NCAA for earning high scores in the most recent Academic Progress Rate (APR) compilation, as released by the organization on Wednesday afternoon.
This marks the seventh consecutive year the women's golf program has been recognized for its academic success, which is the longest streak for any NC State program to earn the distinguished honor. The program recently wrapped up its 2017-18 season as it advanced to the NCAA Regional Championship for the 16th time in 17 seasons.
For women's tennis, this is the sixth time overall and fifth-straight year the program has tabbed the recognition. The team earned a 17-15 (7-7 ACC) regular season record and its third-straight bid to the NCAA Championship. No. 19 Anna Rogers and Claudia Wiktorin clinched the program's second-straight berth to the NCAA Doubles Championship, which begins May 24 in Winston-Salem, N.C.
This is the first honor for the women's swimming and diving program, as it finished 11th in the final national poll of the season, placed third at the ACC Championship and earned its fifth-straight top 20 finish at the NCAA Championship. At NCAAs the squad compiled a combined 15 All-America honors.
The Public Recognition Awards are given annually to teams with an APR in the top 10 percent of its sport. The most recent APRs are multiyear rates based on scores from the 2013-14, 2014-15, 2015-16 and 2016-17 academic years.
The APR provides a real-time look at a team's academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete on scholarship. The APR accounts for eligibility, retention and graduation and provides a measure of each team's academic performance.
