WESTWOOD, Calif. – Despite winning the doubles point and taking four singles matches to three sets, the #36 NC State women's tennis team fell 4-3 to #25 Baylor Friday in the opening round of the NCAA Championships at the Los Angeles Tennis Center.
From the Coach
"Painful outcome today, thought we did a nice job of putting ourselves in position to advance but did not manage the situation as well as we could have unfortunately," said head coach Simon Earnshaw. "Credit to Baylor, I've known Joey and Chris for a long time, they are doing a great job, are tough to beat no matter what the circumstance and that was the case today. Overall it's been a process this spring, we grew as individuals and a team from a tough start in January through a great run in April. Moving forward we've seen a lot and been in a ton of super close matches, experiencing highs and low along with that. I'm confident we are getting closer every year and now know what it takes. I don't see us being complacent at all this summer, we come away even more motivated to keep working at this as well as Anna & Claudia playing in Winston-Salem the week after next. Go Pack!"
Doubles
The Wolfpack took the doubles point as #19 Anna Rogers and Claudia Wiktorin earned a 6-2 victory at the No. 1 position over Dominika Sujova and Giorgia Testa while at the No. 2 position Adriana Reami and Amanda Rebol overcame Jessica Hinojosa and Theresa Van Zyl 6-3.
Singles
The Pack fought admirably in singles as four-from-six matches went into three sets. #108 Adriana Reami defeated Camilla Abbate 6-3, 6-0 at the No. 2 position while Claudia Wiktorin prevailed at the No. 3 position 7-6 (7-1), 6-4 over Jessica Hinojosa.
