Â
RALEIGH, N.C. – April showers may bring May flowers, but at NC State football's annual Kay Yow Spring Game, they led to some spirited action as the Wolfpack concluded spring drills.
Â
Weather conditions were not ideal, but many young Pack players saw action, along with NC State's seasoned vets.
QB Ryan Finley led the way completing 8-of-15 passes for 165 yards and the game's first touchdown in the first quarter. Finley's first completion of the day came on third-and-10 on the first possession, 74 yards to Kelvin Harmon. Harmon finished with three catches for 92 yards.
"You never know what mother nature will bring, we may or may not have a bad weather game like this," said head coach Dave Doeren. "So today was a good chance for (Finley) to throw in bad conditions."
Â
The two teams traded scores in the second quarter on back to back possessions. Nakia Robinson, Jr. scampered in from 11 yards out, and on the next possession Will Eason went 70 yards in just two carries for the second rushing score of the quarter. Eason led all rushers with 99 yards, while Robinson was close behind with 87 yards.
Â
The game moved to a running clock in the second half, and the Pack's offensive starters did not play in the second half.
Â
LB Isaiah Moore led the defense with 10 tackles, while four players had six, including DT Grant Gibson who also recorded two tackles for loss.
"We'll take the next week to sit down with every player, including every position coach sitting down with his players as well as every strength coach sitting down every player," said Doeren. "We'll talk about where each player is at and make a plan for them over the next three months so they can be ready for the season."
