RALEIGH, N.C. - The No. 25 NC State men's tennis team (16-6, 6-5 ACC) is set to travel to Winston-Salem, N.C. for its regular season finale against No. 1 Wake Forest (21-2, 10-1 ACC) Sunday afternoon. The match is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. from the Wake Forest Tennis Complex.Â
LAST TIME OUT:
NC State picked up an ACC road win at 39th-ranked Louisville, taking down the Cardinals by a 4-2 score at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.Â
The Wolfpack won the doubles point for the sixth time in the last seven matches, and Ivan Saveljic, Robert Turzak, and Tadas Babelis picked up singles victories to secure NC State's 16th win of the season.
WOLFPACK IN THE RANKINGS:
NC State heads into the final weekend of the regular season ranked 25th in the nation in the weekly Oracle/ITA team rankings.
Alexis Galarneau holds his spot in the top 50 of the singles rankings, checking in at No. 43. After earning the first singles ranking of his career last week, Igor Saveljic moved up five spots to No. 116.Â
In doubles, Galarneau and Michael Ogden are the Pack's only ranked duo at No. 68.Â
PACK TRACKS:
Six of NC State's wins this season came against opponents that are now ranked as of the April 17 release of the national standings.
The Wolfpack has remained strong in road match play, posting a 7-3 record in away matches. Five of those road victories were against Power Five opponents - Northwestern, Minnesota, Tennessee, Virginia Tech, and Louisville.Â
SCOUTING THE DEMON DEACONS:
Wake Forest started its 2018 campaign at the top of the preseason rankings and has held its No. 1 spot for the entirety of the regular season.Â
Having matched up against 13 nationally-ranked teams over the course of dual match play, Wake Forest's only losses came at the hands of No. 20 Florida State and No. 10 Florida. The program claimed its first-ever national title in February, winning the ITA National Team Indoor Championship over the seventh-ranked UCLA Bruins.
Wake Forest boasts a solid contingent of ranked players. Four singles players are ranked in the latest Oracle/ITA individual rankings, with Petros Chrysochos (No. 5) and Borna Gojo (No. 6) taking spots in the top 10. In doubles, Chrysochos and Skander Mansouri team up to form the nation's second-ranked duo.
The last time the teams faced each other in Winston-Salem was in March of 2016 when the Wolfpack upset the Deacs, who were ranked No. 7 at the time, by a 4-3 score.
