CHICAGO – Sophomore Tziarra King of the NC State women's soccer team has been selected as one of 24 players to train with the United States Under-23 Women's National Team, as the squad will take part in the Thorns Spring Invitational in Portland, Ore., March 11-17.
This is the second consecutive year she has been selected to participate in this event, and fourth time in a one-year span that she has been called up to train with Women's National Team programs. King also was invited to the U-19 camp in Carson, Calif., last June and the U-23 camp in Orlando, Fla., in December of 2017.
King and the rest of the squad will face three NWSL teams at Merlo Field on the University of Portland's campus. The USA will face Houston Dash March 11 at 11:30 a.m. PT, Portland Thorns FC March 14 at 7:30 p.m. PT and Chicago Red Stars March 17 at 1:30 p.m. PT.
A Sicklerville, N.J., native, she started all 22 matches during the Wolfpack's historic 2017 season and led the team in goals (17) and points (40). She ranks fourth and fifth in goals and points, respectively, among the NCAA, and ranks sixth in the program's all-time record book for most goals in a single season and seventh for most points in a single season.
King collected several postseason honors as she was a United Soccer Coaches All-East Region First Team selection and collected All-ACC First Team honors after finishing second in the conference in goals and points. She was also named to the ACC All-Tournament Team and Top Drawer Soccer Best XI Third Team.
She played a vital role in the team's third-place finish in the ACC regular season standings and first ACC semifinal appearance since 1995. King has also contributed to the program's first back-to-back ACC Championship berths since 2003-'04 and NCAA Tournament appearances since 1995-'96.
