RALEIGH — After winning the ACC Championship for the fourth-straight year on the men's side and taking third on the women's side, the NC State swimming & diving team will send a crew of five to the 2018 NCAA Zone B Diving Championships hosted by Tennessee. The meet will run March 5-7 in the Allan Jones Aquatic Center.
James Brady, Holt Gray, Harrison Mitchell, Stewart Spanbauer and Madeline Kline will represent the Wolfpack in Knoxville.
Quoting the Coach
"This is a culmination of our season where everything we have tested and done up to this point is for this meet," said diving coach Yahya Radman. "It is a challenge but we do have a couple of good looks at hopefully qualifying to NCAAs. We've done the work, we've done the training, we've done the preparation; now that the hay is in the barn, there is not much I can do on my end. Now it's up to our divers to trust their mechanics and believe in what they've done, what they've accomplished this season and let the results speak for themselves.
Our goal is to be deliberate on each dive, one dive at a time. The aim is to battle in the top-12 on all boards and let the results land us wherever they land. This is an outstanding meet and this probably is the deepest zone in the country. We do have a plethora of phenomenal talent and to be able to dive and go toe-to- toe with this caliber of athlete and hang with them speaks volumes about our program; our history, our traditions, where we came from and where we are going."
Qualification Process
During the season, divers must score a certain mark to be invited to NCAA Zone Championship. At each zone, divers must qualify for their invitation to the national championships.
Each of the NCAA's five zones earn a different amount of invite slots, based on how that zone's divers preformed at last year's NCAAs. The invites are determined by:
-Each zone is guaranteed five women's spots per event and four men's spots per event.
('A' cut)
-Zones earn bonus spots on top of those five/four based on last year's results. ('A' cut)
-Any eligible diver can compete in any of the three diving events at NCAAs, provided he/she earns one of the invitation spots and places top-12 in the other two events at
that Zone. ('B' cut)
- On the women's side the top-seven will qualify for NCAAs on one-meter, top-seven on three-meter and top-nine on platform
