Rifle's Lauren Phillips Garners Seventh Career All-America Honor

Wolfpack graduate student claims seventh All-America honors
RALEIGH, N.C. – After concluding her collegiate career at the NCAA Championships over the weekend, NC State rifle's Lauren Phillips has been named an All-American by the National Rifle Association (NRA) and the Collegiate Rifle Coaches Association (CRCA).

Phillips garnered second team honors in smallbore and air rifle by the NRA and was an honorable mention selection by the CRCA. The NRA All-America teams are composed of 10 student-athletes, while only five garner a spot on the CRCA squads.

The three All-America honors for Phillips bring her career total to seven, as she collected two All-America accolades last season and two during her freshman season. Additionally, Phillips has earned nine All-Great America Rifle Conference (GARC) selections.

Phillips has won the individual title in smallbore at the GARC Championships on two occasions, most recently claiming the top spot in 2017.

Hailing from Seabeck, Wash., the NC State graduate student recently participated in the NCAA Championships as an individual in the smallbore event and finished 12th with a score of 582. Phillips logged a season average of 581.33 in smallbore, which ranked among the top 15 nationally.

She fired a personal-best score in smallbore against No. 3 Kentucky in January with a 588 clip, which ties as the second-highest score in program history. Phillips achieved an aggregate score of 1182 in the match versus the Wildcats, the second best in NC State rifle history.

Last season, she tallied the second-highest score in program history in the air rifle competition with a score of 596.

Phillips' 2018 season average of 590.71 in air rifle and 1172.05 in the aggregate both rank among the NCAA's top 20.

NC State had a student-athlete selected to compete in the NCAA Championships for three consecutive seasons. The Wolfpack finished the season with an overall record of 11-7, narrowly missing the NCAA Championships as a team.
