Macchiavello Claims Win Over #1 Moore in Loss to Ohio State

R-Senior scores two third-period takedowns, winner with five seconds left, for the win
RALEIGH, N.C. – In his last match in Reynolds Coliseum, NC State redshirt-senior Michael Macchiavello picked up the biggest win of his Wolfpack career. With a pair of third-period takedowns, including the winning takedown with five seconds left with the score tied, #7 Macchiavello scored a 7-5 win over #1 Kollin Moore of Ohio State at 197 pounds.
#2 Ohio State (14-1) claimed the win in eight of the 10 individual bouts and downed the #6 Wolfpack (15-2) 29-6 in Reynolds in the final dual of the 2017-18 season.

The dual started at 184 pounds with a top-three battle as #2 Myles Martin pulled out an 8-1 win over #3 Pete Renda. The score was 2-1 Martin late in the third, Renda got in on a shot, but Moore scored a takedown and four-point near fall in the final seconds.

Macchiavello followed with his win to even it at 3-3 after two matches, but Ohio State then notched five straight wins to take a 20-3 team lead with three bouts left. 2016 Olympic Gold medalist scored a bonus point win to start the stretch, that was followed by four consecutive Buckeyes decisions.

#3 R-Fr. Hayden Hidlay stopped the streak, as he remained undefeated at 20-0 with a 6-3 win over #7 Micah Jordan. Down 2-1Â after the first, Hidlay scored a two-point near fall in the second period and the bout was 3-3 heading into the third. Hidlay started down, got the escape, then his own takedown with 45 seconds left to clinch the win.
The Buckeyes closed out the road win with wins at 165 and 174 pounds.
