Renda Named ACC Wrestler of the Week

R-Sr. becomes fourth from NC State to win award this season
RALEIGH, N.C. - NC State redshirt senior Pete Renda was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Wrestler of the Week after leading No. 6 NC State to a 26-7 win over No. 24 North Carolina this past weekend.

Renda, from Topton, Pennsylvania, and wrestling at 184 pounds, recorded a major decision over UNC's Chip Ness, who was ranked No. 18 nationally by InterMat. Renda scored a takedown in the first, and then a two-point near fall and a ride out in the second to open up a commanding 4-0 lead. He finished the bout with 3:21 of ride time as well.

The 8-0 win gave the Wolfpack the lead for good as State improved to 14-1 on season and 4-0 in the ACC.

Renda improved to a perfect 19-0 record on the season and is one of only 15 Division 1 wrestlers still unbeaten. He is ranked third in the nation in the 184 pound weight class. Renda becomes the fourth NC State wrestler to be named ACC Wrestler of the Week this year, joining Kevin Jack (11-14), Hayden Hidlay (12-12, 12-19 and 1-23) and Tariq Wilson (1-30).
