USTFCCCA Team Release | USTFCCCA Individual Release
NEW ORLEANS – The NC State men's and women's cross country teams were both named 2017 All-Academic Teams, and Elly Henes and Ian Shanklin received individual USTFCCCA All-Academic honors, as announced by the organization's office.
The women's team boasts a 3.2 team GPA to earn All-Academic distinction, while the men's program earned a team GPA of 3.11. The honors mark the 10th consecutive year that the Wolfpack cross country squad has received either team or individual academic honors from USTFCCCA.
The team recognitions add to an already successful 2017 season for NC State.
The Wolfpack women captured the ACC and Southeast Regional crowns for the second year in a row. In its 31st NCAA Nationals Appearance, the team earned its third-straight top-8 finish.
The men, who have finished inside the top-three at 27 of the last 29 conference meets, took home third at the 2017 ACC Championships. After receiving an at-large bid to NCAA Nationals, the team earned its highest national finish since 2011.
To be considered for individual honors, student-athletes must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 and finish in the top-25 (or 10 percent) at regionals or be named an All-American at the national meet.
Henes repeats as an honoree, after also being named an All-Academic Individual in 2016. The Wolfpack sophomore earned All-ACC honors after taking fourth place at the conference meet, and she gained All-American status with her 32nd-place finish at NCAA Nationals.
Shanklin garners All-Academic honors in his first season at NC State. The true freshman finished a team-best 19th at the Southeast Regional, where he took home All-Region honors for the Wolfpack men with his performance.
Both Henes and Shanklin have already been honored by the conference this season as they were named to the 2017 All-ACC Academic Cross Country Team.
