RALEIGH – The NC State women's tennis team is slated for a pair of matches in the state of Kansas as it continues its spring season Friday, with a match against Wichita State at 4:00 p.m. (ET) at the Wichita Country Club and another Saturday at 2:00 p.m. (ET) when it takes on Kansas at the Jayhawk Tennis Complex.
From the Coach
"Once again, we are going to see two very good teams on the road like last week at the ITA Kick-Off," said head coach Simon Earnshaw. "Obviously, it's an immediate opportunity for us to step up as I know the girls were disappointed with the themselves and the overall performance this past weekend. That being said as with most of our schedule, nothing is going to come easily and every win is going to have to be earned. Both Wichita St and Kansas are extremely well coached, I'm sure they'll be more than ready for us therefore we have to expect that nothing short of our best will be necessary this time out."
Pack in the Rankings
Claudia Wiktorin & sophomore Anna Rogers are the ninth-ranked doubles team in the nation, according to the latest Oracle/ITA rankings that were released on Nov. 15, 2017. Their mark is the second-highest doubles ranking achieved in program history behind Sanna Bhambri & Sandya Nagharaj, who were ranked No. 7 in 2011.
Wiktorin also earned the first singles ranking of her career as she is currently ranked #61.
Last time out for the Wolfpack
NC State competed against some of the top teams in the country at the ITA Kick-Off weekend on Jan. 26-27; it fell 4-0 to UCLA, ranked #13 in the Oracle/ITA team rankings released on Jan. 31, and 4-2 to Kentucky, who were ranked #21 at the time and received votes in the latest rankings.
While the Pack did not defeat the Bruins or Wildcats, NC State was quite successful in doubles; #9 Wiktorin & Rogers defeated #7 Jada Hart & Ena Shibara of UCLA 6-2. Against Kentucky, NC State won two-out-of-three doubles matches as Adriana Reami & Amanda Rebol overcame UK's Justina Mikulskyte & Lesedi Jacobs 6-4 while Bianca Moldovan & Helene Grimm defeated Diana Tkachenko & Brianna Tulloch 6-3
