Three From Wolfpack Earn All-ACC Academic Honors

NC State has had at least three on the team for five straight seasons

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Simon Blotko, Julius Duchscherer, and Leon Krapf earned spots on the 2017 All-ACC Academic Men's Soccer Team, the league office announced Thursday morning.
Duchscherer earned the third such honor of his career on Thursday, while Blotko was recognized for the second time, and Krapf for the first. The 2017 season marks the fifth straight year in which the Wolfpack has had at least three players recognized on the team.
Blotko (defender) and Krapf (goalkeeper) played vital roles on a team that conceded merely 1.11 goals per match. Krapf made 43 saves on the season and allowed only 20 goals, while Blotko contributed three assists from a defensive role. Duchscherer (midfielder) scored four goals in 12 matches, two of them being match-winners, and earned CoSIDA First Team Academic All-American honors.
NC State's historic first season under new head coach George Kiefer and his staff came to an end after achieving a number of firsts. The team qualified for its first NCAA Championship since 2009 and hosted the first ACC Championship first-round match at Dail Soccer Stadium in program history. Despite a preseason prediction of 11th, the Wolfpack tied for seventh in the ACC standings and knocked off two top-five teams throughout the year.
