GREENSBORO, N.C.– For the third season in a row and the fourth time in her career, NC State women's cross country head coach Laurie Henes has been named Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Coach of the Year in a vote of the league's head coaches, as announced by the conference office Tuesday morning.
"It's an honor to be named Coach of the Year among an incredible group of head coaches in this conference," said Henes. "I'm proud of this team's determination and what they were able to achieve this season. I feel incredibly lucky to be surrounded by such a great group of student-athletes, coaches and support staff at NC State who have helped make all of our accomplishments possible."
Henes coached the Wolfpack women to their third straight and 24th overall ACC title in 2018 as the team edged out Notre Dame by one point to capture the win. The Wolfpack saw three of its women finish in the top 10 as Elly Henes (2nd), Dominique Clairmonte (8th) and Nell Crosby (10th) were named All-ACC performers.
NC State went on to claim its third regional title in a row at the NCAA Southeast Regional in Rock Hill, S.C. In addition to the team's first-place finish and automatic berth to the NCAA National Championships, all five of the Wolfpack's scorers garnered All-Region honors. The Pack's performance at the regional meet saw Henes named NCAA Southeast Region Women's Coach of the Year for the third year in a row and the fourth time in her career.
After being ranked in the top 15 for the entirety of the season, the Wolfpack's 2018 campaign ended with a 13th-place finish at the NCAA Championships. It was NC State's fourth top-15 finish in a row under Henes' guidance. The Pack was led by junior Elly Henes who crossed the finish line 16th on her way to gaining All-American status for the second season in a row.
This marks the fourth ACC Coach of the Year award for Henes, who also received the honors in 2017, 2016 and 2006. Her total of four conference coach of the year awards ranks third in ACC history, only behind current NC State men's head coach Rollie Geiger (15) and Florida State's Karen Harvey (7).
