ÂRALEIGH – The NC State men's soccer team was ranked 24th nationally in the final TopDrawerSoccer poll of the season, the organization announced recently.
Â
In just the second season under head coach George Kiefer and his staff, the Wolfpack achieved multiple impressive milestones during the 2018 campaign. The team qualified for the NCAA Championships in back-to-back seasons for the first time since 1991/1992, earned its first victory in the NCAA Championships since 1994, recorded its first 10-win season since 2012, and posted an unbeaten 8-0-3 record in Raleigh in front of large home crowds that ranked 22nd nationally in average attendance. NC State also defeated two top-five teams in 2018, winning 2-0 at College Cup runner-up Akron and defeating then No. 1 UNC-Chapel Hill in Raleigh in front of a stadium-record sellout crowd.
Â
"It's nice to be recognized at the end of the season with a top-25 ranking and we feel it's the beginning of some very special years to come," NC State head coach George Kiefer said. "I think the coaching staff and players have worked extremely hard to build a strong foundation that focuses on the team's culture and restoring NC State back to where Coach (George) Tarantini had it in the early 80's, which was among the very best programs in the country."
Â
"I look forward to getting to work in early January to begin the building of the 2019 season."
Â
In addition to these successes on the field, NC State's current incoming recruiting class is ranked No. 8 in the nation by TopDrawerSoccer.
