ACC Release
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Senior captain Andreas Vazaios of the NC State swimming and diving team was named ACC Men's Swimmer of the Week, as announced by the conference office Monday. The honors mark the second of the season for Vazaios, who was also honored as a Swimmer of the Week after the Wolfpack's season-opening meet against South Carolina in October.
The Athens, Greece native was the top scorer for the Atlantic Coast Conference men at the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. His 21 points led all male scorers at the inaugural inter-conference meet.
Vazaios took home gold in two individual events as he won the 200-yard backstroke and the 200-yard individual medley. In the IM, he took first place with a time of 1:42.44 that reclaimed his spot as the nation's fastest swimmer in that event this season. The mark was a season best and bettered his NCAA B cut.
The Wolfpack senior picked up his backstroke win, his second of the season in the event, with a personal-best time of 1:41.62. The time, which was more than four seconds faster than his previous fastest, moved him into fifth in program history and also stands as the ACC's best performance of the season in the event.
NC State will return to action Nov. 15-17 as it heads to Bloomington, Ind. to compete at the IU Invitational.
