Women’s Soccer Defeats Syracuse, 6-3
10/4/2018 9:41:00 PM | Women's Soccer
Maxine Blackwood recorded her first career hat trick while Tziarra King, Kia Rankin and Kursten von Klahr each had a tally.
The Wolfpack improves to 9-3-2 (2-2-1 ACC) while the Orange fall to 3-10-0 (0-5-0 ACC) on the season.
The result marks the first time since 1994 that the program has scored six or more goals in multiple matches in the same season. Additionally, this is the first time NC State has ever scored six or more goals against multiple ACC opponents in a single season, as the Pack shut out the Panthers 6-0 on Sept. 23.

How It Happened
Syracuse took an early 1-0 lead when Sydney Brackett managed to bend in a corner kick in the third minute. The Pack won a pair of corners right after the 'Cuse goal, but we're unable to find the equalizer.
Seven minutes later though, Blackwood leveled the score with her first goal of the season. Ricci Walkling took the ball from the midfield to 30 yards out, played ahead to Blackwood inside the box who finished to the upper part of the net.
Shortly after the Orange won their second corner of the contest, which produced a long shot that landed on top of the net.
King gave the Pack its first lead of the contest with a tally in the 16th minute, her eighth of the season. She forced a Syracuse turnover above the 18', and her low strike from the right side of the six-yard box got past goalkeeper Lysianne Proulx.
The team's only other scoring opportunity came in the 24th minute when a shot by Rankin was blocked, while 'Cuse could only muster up another corner off a blocked shot.
In the second period a combined six goals were scored between both squads, as NC State opened up the half with two in the first three minutes.
Blackwood scored her second of the match in the 47th minute with a low strike from the left side off of a pass from King. One minute later Mia Thillet played a through ball to Rankin at the top of the box, and Rankin finished to the bottom right corner of the net for her fourth goal of the year.
Blackwood recorded her first career hat trick to put the team up 5-1 in the 60th minute. Walkling played a through ball to her down in the box and she finished to the far left post.
In the 65th minute Meghan Root cut Syracuse's deficit to three when she found the rebound off a shot by Drina Domic that hit the left post.
Less than a minute later von Klahr responded with her first career goal. King passed the ball to her from the left side across the top of the 18', and she finished to the far left post.
The Orange managed to put one more goal on the board with 15 minutes left in regulation, once again off a rebound. Steph deLaforcade got her foot on a blocked shot from Mackenzie Vlachos and got the ball past goalkeeper Sydney Wooten.
Wootten made four saves in the contest, as her first didn't come until the 47th minute. She made a pair of crucial saves down the stretch to keep the Pack's three-goal lead.
Syracuse outshot NC State 12-7, but six of the Pack's seven were converted to goals. The teams won three corners apiece.
