Wolfpack Falls 2-1 At #11 Virginia

The NC State women's soccer team closed out its regular-season schedule on Thursday evening with a hard-fought 2-1 loss to No. 11 Virginia at Klöckner Stadium in Charlottesville, Va.
The Wolfpack falls to 10-6-3 (3-5-2 ACC) while the Cavaliers improve to 14-3-0 (7-3-0 ACC) on the season.

How It Happened
Virginia held an 11-to-1 shot advantage in the first half, with just two on them on target in the opening five minutes of the contest. The Cavaliers only managed to produce one shot off of its three corner kicks as the rest were well defended by the Red and White.
The Pack's only shot of the half was by Michaella van Maanen in the 17th minute, a low strike off a pass from Tziarra King that went right to goalkeeper Laurel Ivory.
UVa opened the second half with a goal in the 47th minute when Lizzy Sieracki headed in Betsy Brandon's corner kick.
In minutes 50-65 the Cavaliers tallied five more shots and won three corners, but just one that hit the crossbar was a real threat.
Virginia doubled its lead in the 72nd minute when Meghan McCool found the back of the net off of the deflection of a blocked shot.
Five minutes later King pulled the Pack back within one with her ninth goal of the year, beating out three UVa defenders inside 10 yards thanks to a forward pass from Ricci Walkling.
Virginia outshot the Pack 20-4 and won eight corners compared to NC State's zero. Just a combined three shots were on frame in the contest.

NC State will now await its fate for the NCAA Tournament. The selection show will be Nov. 5.
