GREENSBORO, N.C. – Senior goalkeeper Sydney Wootten of the NC State women's soccer team was named ACC Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the league office on Tuesday morning.
She made a career-high 16 saves in the Wolfpack's 1-1 draw at No. 13 Florida State last weekend, just three shy of the program record for the most in a single game. The result marked the first time since 2000 that NC State has beaten or tied the Seminoles.
This is the fourth weekly honor in her career, as her 16 saves are an individual conference high this season and the most by an individual since 2014.
A San Diego, Calif., native, Wootten is on track to finish among the top five all-time for career saves (22) and goals-against average (1.24).
The team is back in action Thursday when it hosts Miami at 7 p.m. for its annual Pink Match, and again Sunday for its final home match of the regular season when it welcomes Louisville for Senior Day at 1 p.m. Both contests will be played at Dail Soccer Stadium and broadcast on the ACC Network Extra.
