LAKEWOOD RANCH, Fla. – The United States Soccer Federation recently completed a first-of-its-kind Youth National Team Summit Camp, and NC State's connections to the event spanning January 2-11 were significant.
Former Wolfpack men's soccer legend and current U.S. Soccer Youth Technical Director Tab Ramos led the camp, and selected 153 players for the U-16, U-17, U-18, U-19, and U-20 Youth National Teams. Current NC State player and reigning ACC Freshman of the Year Manny Perez was among these players, having been chosen to the U-20 squad as a defender.
Ramos was quite pleased with how the camp progressed. (U.S. Soccer Q&A with Ramos.)
After turning heads in Raleigh with his stellar debut season for a Wolfpack team that advanced to the postseason for the first time since 2009 during the first year under new head coach George Kiefer and his staff, Perez was a very bright spot at the recent camp, earning the following praise from Ramos in an article by Goal USA's Ives Galarcep:
"He's been really great, and has surpassed my expectations. He's got an ability to cover ground and get up and down the line. He has endless energy. He's constantly trying to get better every day. He's got all the ingredients to become a good pro."
