Wolfpack to begin season ranked among top 10
MURRAY, Ky. – For the second consecutive season, the NC State rifle team will begin the season ranked among the top 10 of the Preseason Collegiate Rifle Coaches Association (CRCA) Poll as the Wolfpack is listed ninth in the ranking.
Â
Following one of its best seasons in program history, NCAA rifle coaches are high on the 2017-18 Wolfpack squad that finished last year ranked ninth in the nation, one spot shy of advancing to the NCAA Championships as a team.
Â
NC State did have two individuals qualify for the NCAA Championships last year, highlighted by Olympian, six-time All-American and recent graduate Lucas Kozeniesky.
Â
Graduate student Lauren Phillips returns to lead the squad in her final season with the program, as she won the individual smallbore title at the Great America Rifle Conference (GARC) Championships last year. Additionally, she was tabbed an All-American by the CRCA and National Rifle Association (NRA).
Â
The Wolfpack also welcomes Kendra Jacobs to the squad for this season, a transfer from Air Force Academy. In addition, Derya Pekari, Will Marciniak, Tyler Lefebvre, Claire Spina, Claire Zanti and Zach Eisenberg each return to the program.
Â
NC State opens the season in the same manner it did a year ago, by facing the top-ranked West Virginia Mountaineers in a GARC matchup. The event will be held Saturday, Sept. 23, at The Citadel's Rifle Range. Joining the Pack and Bulldogs at the season-opening match are North Georgia and Ohio State.
