MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. –. The NC State women's tennis team continued to gain momentum on the third day of the Gopher Invitational at the Baseline Tennis Center, with senior Tayla Stenta & junior Amanda Rebol winning both doubles matches and freshman Taylor Bridges getting her first career singles victory.
Doubles
The pairing of Stenta & Rebol prevailed 7-6 (6) over Nebraska's Paula Del Cueto Castille & Brianna Lashway, then backed it up with a 6-2 win over Karyna Bihel and Camila Vargas of Minnesota.
Singles
Singles saw more impressive play from Rebol, as she won the semifinal of her flight against Minnesota's Caroline Ryba 6-3, 6-4.
Stenta endured a close encounter against Claire Refies of Nebraska and was unlucky not to be the victor, falling 7-5, 6-4 in her semifinal.
Today was also a signficant day for Bridges, as she obtained her first career singles victory when she overcame North Dakota's Regan Lynch 6-1, 6-0.
Assistant Coach David Secker saw several positive signs during the Wolfpack's third day of play.
"We made progress today," he explained. "Won a tough doubles match where we were able to run our plays under pressure which is what's needed at the start the fall season. Rebol roughed out a match against a high-quality opponent playing at home and Bridges earned her first singles win of her college career in convincing fashion."
Up Next
Play will start at 8:00 a.m. with two doubles matches and then one singles match. In singles, Rebol takes on River Hart of Minnesota in the Championship match of her flight, while Stenta faces Minnesota's Mehvish Safdar in the third-place match of hers.
