RALEIGH, N.C. – Highlighted by the first-ever collegiate dual outside of North America, NC State head coach Pat Popolizio has announced the Wolfpack's 2017-18 schedule. The Pack's slate includes 17 scheduled duals and three tournaments during the regular season, before the ACC Championship at North Carolina and the NCAA Championships in Cleveland in March.
Â
Already released, NC State will face Oklahoma State in the first-ever NCAA dual held outside of North America. The two teams will travel to Naples, Italy for a matchup in early January.
Â
In FloWrestling.com's preseason rankings, NC State will start the season ranked No. 12 nationally. In 2017-18, five of the Pack's dual opponents are ranked in the top-20, including three in the top-10. No. 2 Ohio State and No. 8 Virginia Tech both visit Raleigh the final weekend of the regular season. The Italy dual will be a battle versus No. 4 Oklahoma State. NC State travels to No. 17 Nebraska and No. 18 North Carolina comes to Reynolds Coliseum.
Â
"We really focused on changing up our schedule this year, implementing an overseas trip, heading to the Reno Tournament of Champions (in December), and having our first dual in Charlotte," said Popolizio.
Â
"We feel that with where our team is right now, facing as many top teams as we will be this season will only benefit us for the post season. Having two top-10 teams in Raleigh that final weekend will be a challenge for our team, and will set the stage for where we want to finish the year in the ACC and NCAA championships."
Â
Â
NC State starts its 2017-18 season in Albany, N.Y., competing in the Journeymen Duals on Nov. 11 and then the Journeymen Classic on Nov. 12.
Â
The Pack's first home action will be the weekend of Nov. 18-19, as the Wolfpack Duals will feature three NC State matches on Nov. 18 in Reynolds and the Wolfpack Open will be held Nov. 19 in Carmichael Gymnasium.
Â
Other home action: vs. Old Dominion (Dec. 3), Virginia (Jan. 26), North Carolina (Feb. 9), Virginia Tech (Feb. 16), and Ohio State (Feb. 18).
Â
Postseason will see the ACC Championship in Chapel Hill on March 3, and the NCAA Championships will be in Cleveland March 15-17.
