Senior Julia Brown becomes 11th player in program history to reach 1,000 career kills
RALEIGH, N.C. – Senior Julia Brown became just the 11th player in the history of the NC State volleyball program to reach 1,000 career kills, as the Wolfpack cruised past the LIU Brooklyn Blackbirds in straight sets, 3-0 (25-19, 25-14, 25-10), Sunday afternoon inside Reynolds Coliseum.
The Davidson, N.C., native entered the match with 995 kills and swatted seven kills in the contest to surpass 1,000 for her career. Brown is one of three active players in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) with 1,000 or more career kills, along with Wake Forest's Kylie Long and Miami's Olga Strantzali.
"I feel so excited and blessed, but this really speaks to the hard work and success of our team," said Brown. "It takes great passing and setting for me to do my job, so this milestone is really a recognition of how great my teammates are! I'm looking forward to building on this and continuing this success as we prepare for our tournament in Michigan this weekend."
Brown helped NC State earn its second consecutive sweep, as the Wolfpack defeated High Point last night in straight sets. The Wolfpack's win completes a perfect 3-0 weekend for the squad with its other win against UNCW on Saturday.
NC State moves to 3-5 on the year, while LIU Brooklyn falls to 4-6.

Overall thoughts…
"I'm very proud of our efforts today, LIU is a great team and they're going to do great things in their conference as they always do," said head coach Linda Hampton-Keith. "They're an NCAA Tournament team from last year and I expect them to be a tournament team again this year, so for us to be able to come out and stay focused and put three sets together that were pretty high level was impressive. I'm really proud of the team."
On Julia Brown reaching 1,000 career kills…
"Julia's awesome to coach, she just works so hard every day and she keeps getting better every day. To get that this early in the season is really impressive, so she's going to end with a fantastic career. I'm excited for her."
On Kaitlyn Kearney's performance…
"Kaitlyn did a great job, one of her best hits is the slide and so some of the changes we made really allowed for her to thrive and we're really, really happy to get her going. She's really comfortable with it and successful at it, so it was a nice thing to see."
