Roberts Scores Twice to Lead Wolfpack to Second Straight Win

NC State defeats Longwood 2-1 to cap home stand at Dail Soccer Stadium

RALEIGH – Led by two goals from junior forward Tanner Roberts, the NC State men's soccer team (3-1-0) picked up its second straight victory on Sunday evening, defeating the visiting Longwood Lancers by a final score of 2-1.
NC State outshot Longwood (0-3-1) by a 10-4 margin and controlled much of the possession throughout the evening. Roberts scored his first goal of the evening in the 27th minute on a header from a Brad Sweeney free kick. He then doubled the Wolfpack lead in the 83rd minute by dribbling past an onrushing goalkeeper and guiding the ball into the net following a tremendous play by teammate Tyler Gabarra in which he took possession from a Longwood defender and fed the ball across the face of goal to a waiting Roberts.
Longwood pulled one back in the 86th minute when Sammy Dupuy scored his first goal of the season on a skilled header that came directly from a Dan Campos free kick.
NC State returns to action on Friday, Sept. 15 at No. 6/7 Notre Dame. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. from South Bend, Ind.
