Offseason Accolades Continue to Roll in for Wolfpack
RALEIGH- Just when it seemed things were about to quiet down for the NC State men's & women's swimming & diving team, rising junior Elise Haan and graduate student Alexia Zevnik made sure that was not the case on Saturday.
Haan traveled to East Meadow, New York, for the U.S. Open Swimming Championships and won the national title in 100-meter backstroke, while Zevnik also won the national title in Montreal, Quebec, at the Canadian Swimming Championships,Â
Zevnik broke the program record, as her time of 59.77 seconds  saw her become the first Wolfpack woman to complete the 100 backstroke under the time of 1:00. Haan came close to accomplishing the same feat, as she finished the race in 1:00.59 seconds.
Both women's top times in the event have them situated among the world's elite, as Zevnik now sits 19th, and Haan's finish of 1:00:02 seconds from the World Championship Trials earlier this summer have her 22nd overall.
Today's results are a pleasing way to cap off what has been a stellar 2016-17 campaign for both women. Haan earned All-America Honors in the 200 and 400 medley relays, along with the 100 backstroke. Zevnik was honored as an All-American in 100 and 200 backstroke, 200 individual medley, 400 freestyle relay, and 400 medley relay.
