Brown, Evans Named to All-Tournament Team

Opening weekend standouts garner spot on all-tournament team
RALEIGH, N.C. – Following a strong opening weekend, NC State volleyball's Julia Brown and Melissa Evans were named to the all-tournament team. The duo led the Wolfpack in kills over the weekend, as Evans led the Pack in kills twice and Brown once.

Brown swatted 46 kills to go along with 32 digs and nine blocks. The Davidson, N.C., native charted nine kills and 11 digs in the season opener against No. 8 Kansas. She recorded a double-double against Missouri State with 17 kills and 14 digs in addition to six blocks.

In the final match of the weekend, Brown smacked 20 kills versus the eighth-ranked Kansas Jayhawks to chart her eighth career match with at least 20 kills. She also compiled a .368 attacking percentage in that contest complemented by seven digs.

Evans turned in a stellar opening weekend in her collegiate debut, as the freshman led NC State offensively with 50 kills. She notched double-digit kills in all three matches, highlighted by a career-high 20 against Missouri State.

Hailing from Lone Tree, Colo., Evans led the Pack in kills in the season opener against No. 8 Kansas with 14 before her breakout performance versus Missouri State on Saturday with 20. She logged 17 kills on her first 27 attacks before committing an error in the contest.

In the rematch with Kansas, Evans swatted 16 kills, the second most on the team and fourth most in the match. She averaged 3.57 kills per set for the weekend.

NC State is back in action this weekend when the squad travels to San Juan, Puerto Rico, for the Southeastern Conference (SEC) – Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Challenge. The Wolfpack will play No. 12 Florida Saturday, Sept. 2 and Auburn Sunday, Sept. 3.
