STORRS, Conn. – The NC State men's soccer team picked up an impressive 4-1 victory at No. 24 UConn Saturday evening in its final exhibition contest of the 2017 season.
NC State looked up at a 1-0 deficit entering halftime, but outshot the Huskies 8-3 in the second half with four shots finding the back of the net. Junior Tanner Roberts (69', 80') scored from two headers to give the Pack an advantage it would never relinquish. Freshman David Loera (86') and junior Christoph Schneuwly (90') put the match away in the later stages. Jan-Luca Ahillen registered two assists in the match while Simon Blotko also chipped in one.
"The match tonight gave us everything we were looking for," new NC State head coach George Kiefer said. "We had to deal with a very athletic UConn team and our players managed our shape with and without the ball well. We have a lot to learn and look at this week."
Freshman goalkeeper Leon Krapf made four saves in the match. NC State and UConn each used 20 players in the exhibition contest.
NC State officially opens the season at home on Friday, August 25 against Florida Atlantic. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. from Dail Soccer Stadium on campus.
