National Honor Recognizes Top Quarterback in Country
RALEIGH, N.C. - NC State quarterback Ryan Finley has been named to the preseason watch list for the Manning Award, sponsored by the Allstate Sugar Bowl. The list includes 30 of the top quarterbacks in the nation heading into the 2017 season.Â
After one season with NC State, Finley already ranks 15th in school history in career passing yards and is tied for 14th in touchdown throws. His 3,059 yards in 2016 was the sixth-best mark in school history and the highest passing total ever for a Wolfpack sophomore.
Finley's 18 touchdown throws last season ties as the 11th-best single-season mark in school history and his 3,153 yards of total offense ranked seventh on the single-season list.  Last month he was named a candidate for the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award.
The Manning Award was created by the Allstate Sugar Bowl in honor of the college football accomplishments of Archie, Peyton and Eli Manning. It is the only quarterback award that includes the candidates' bowl performances in its balloting. The winner will again be selected by a voting panel, which includes national media and each of the Mannings, after the bowls.
