RALEIGH – The NC State women's soccer team checks in at No. 23 on Top Drawer Soccer's (TDS) Preseason Top 25 poll, released on Monday afternoon.
The Wolfpack returns all 11 of its starters from last season, including its top four scorers. The team also welcomes seven talented freshmen to its roster.
Of the returning starters three earned postseason accolades last season with Tziarra King and Kia Rankin tabbing All-ACC honors and King and Krissi Schuster being named to the NSCAA Southeast All-Region Team.
NC State is one of seven Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) teams ranked in the TDS preseason poll, joining No. 4 Florida State, No. 5 Duke, No. 9 UNC-Chapel Hill, No. 14 Notre Dame, No. 19 Virginia and No. 21 Clemson. The Pack is slated to face all but UNC-CH in conference play this fall.
The 2016 campaign was one of the most successful seasons in program history. For the first time in 20 years, NC State advanced to the NCAA Championship and made a run to the NCAA Third Round (Sweet 16) for just the fourth time in school history. The regular season was highlighted by wins over ranked opposition and its second best ACC wins and points totals in program history. NC State also advanced to the ACC Championship for first time since 2006.
NC State opens the season Friday at Oregon. Kickoff is 8 p.m. ET and will be broadcast live on the Pac-12 Network.
