FORT WORTH, Texas – Rising junior Amanda Rebol ensured all four members of the NC State women's tennis team competing at Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Summer National Championships advanced to the second round, as she earned a 6-3, 4-6, 10-5 opening-round victory over Amanda Memije at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center on Saturday morning.
With Anna Rogers, Bianca Moldovan and Adriana Reami each having first-round byes, Rebol was the lone member of the Pack competing today, and she represented it tremendously.
The first set went smoothly for Rebol, as she cruised to a 6-3 victory. The set concluded with Rebol running down ball after ball, and Memije missing an overhead into the net.
The second set saw her encounter some adversity, as Memije showed there was still plenty of fight left in her, as she raced out to a 4-2 lead, and eventually took the set 6-4.
With the momentum of the match against her, Rebol was faced with a 10-point tiebreak situation in third set. Despite this, coupled with the extreme heat and humidity, she prevailed 10-5, securing a spot in the second round
"It's good to be competing again after a couple weeks off" said Rebol. "The conditions out here are pretty brutal, but it feels good to get the win. Excited for the next one! Go Pack!"
