Wolfpack’s Ress finishes sixth, still holds second-fastest time in world
BUDAPEST, Hungary – NC State rising junior Justin Ress concluded what has been an outstanding summer by finishing sixth in the final of the 50-meter backstroke, at the FINA World Championships in Budapest, Hungary.
While he completed the race in 24.77 seconds, his time of 24.41 seconds from the U.S. National Championships/World Championship Trials still stands as the second-fastest time in the world.
"We're proud of Justin making the final and finishing sixth at his first World Championships" said head coach Braden Holloway. "There were some great swims from Wolfpack Nation , NC State was well represented. We're happy that they were able to represent their countries, hats off to the staff and support staff for preparing the student-athletes for the World Championships. For Justin, he was the only teenager in the field, and as he gets older he's going to keep developing strength and he's only going to get better. He's just getting started on the international scene, we're looking forward to the future with Justin, and this is only the beginning."
With today being the final day of competition, Ress, will now take a short rest prior to turning his focus to the World University Games, being held in Taipei, Taiwan from Aug. 19-30.
