#PackCamp Profiles: Opening Day
7/29/2017 2:11:00 PM | Football
Raleigh – During a two-hour practice on Saturday morning, head coach Dave Doeren and the coaching staff placed an emphasis on fundamentals, footwork and communication. While these three aspects of football may seem basic, the best teams have mastered them and that was the aim on day one of fall camp.
Following warm-ups, practice largely consisted of each position group going through the basics, ensuring guys are ready in preparation for more advanced work as camp goes on. The blue-collar, no-frills culture of the program was obvious to this first-time observer.

Doeren also stressed that the mental part of the game has to be a strength. The team worked on third down and red zone during practice 1 – situations which Doeren told his team ""are going to be key to our ownership of the season."
For the media in attendance, it was the first time seeing many of the guys since spring ball. In perhaps the least shocking news of the day, the press were eager to ask Kentavius Street about his (somewhat easy looking) 700 lb squat that went viral. It was also evident they were impressed by quarterback Ryan Finley's added weight, as he shapes up to be a stronger and even more durable presence in the pocket this season.
Upon the conclusion of practice, the team headed straight to the showers and cold tubs, then to the dining hall to begin refueling process prior to meetings, strength and conditioning work, and a walk-through tonight.

For some, such as seniors Bradley Chubb and Jaylen Samuels, this is the beginning of the end of the road for them at NC State. For the freshmen, camp is the start of a journey they'll take with them for the rest of their lives. During moments of glory, it is always the early mornings, the dog days of fall that will be looked back upon as what got them there.
With Monday and Tuesday off due to finals, the guys will be sure to get plenty of rest overnight as tomorrow will be an even more intense day
Be sure to keep an eye out for #PackCamp Profiles tomorrow, to hear how the team responds following the first full day.
