Describe the trip to Italy.
"The trip to Italy was absolutely amazing! The coolest part was that we got to take the incoming freshmen, so it really gave us a chance to connect, both on and off the court, with the girls that we have coming in.
"We went to so many cool places; I think we visited seven different cities and we did a lot of sightseeing. We played some really good teams while we there as well. We played the Italian National Team in Milan, which was such a cool experience. It was overall an amazing trip."
What was the best part of the trip?
"It was really fun playing the teams and listening to how they were communicating on the court. My favorite city that we visited was Porto Venere, which is a beach city. We got to swim in the Mediterranean Sea and it was a really cool experience."
Had you ever been to Italy before?
"I had actually, I used to live there when my dad played professional basketball there for a couple years. I was too young to remember anything, so it was cool to go back. I lived in Como, which was one of the places we visited and I also lived in Milan and we went there as well. My family came on the trip, so they were able to show me some of the places where we used to live and visit."
What did you do during the flight to pass the time?
"Well, they told us that we should sleep on the flight heading to Italy to help with the time difference. I think I watched maybe three movies, slept for a few hours, watched another movie and then slept for a few more hours. On the way home, I didn't sleep at all I think I watched eight different movies."
How excited were you when you found out that you would be going to Italy?
"I was so excited. We had no idea that we'd be going. We didn't know that the freshmen would be able to come either, so that was a really nice surprise as well."
Other than the Italy trip, have you taken any other vacations or do you have any planned?
"I got to go home for a few weeks after the trip to Italy and my ideal vacation is to just go home, spend time with my family and watch my little brother play basketball. I was home for about two weeks just hanging out with family, so it was a great."
How excited are you to make your debut in a Wolfpack uniform this fall?
"I'm so excited. Italy kind of made it real for me when I got to put on the jersey and actually play in it for the first time. It was surreal and so exciting. To get to play with everyone that I'll be playing with this season and have everyone there at the same time was awesome. We were all kind of in-and-out after the spring semester until we started training for Italy. It put everything in perspective for me about how the season's going to be and I'm really pumped and excited for the fall."
What are your goals for the team and individually this year?
"For the team, we definitely want to make the NCAA Tournament and win the ACC. I think we have all the pieces this year and we have so much potential. We can go places that this program has never been before. Not only make the tournament, but also I think we can make a run once we get there.
"Personally, I just want to come in and make an impact on this program. I want to be the start of something great for this program. I want people to think of NC State volleyball as a top 10 program and an NCAA Tournament team every year. I want to be a part of that and creating the new culture here."
Was there anything in particular that you wanted to work on this summer for the season?
"I want to get stronger. With my 6'4" frame, it makes it a little harder to build that muscle but I've been working really hard in the weight room."
What do you want to do after the season?
"I've been going back-and-forth. There are a lot of job opportunities that have recently become available to me, but the Italy trip really made me want to play professionally overseas. It changes every day, I'm a little indecisive right now. There's a large chance that I will try and play professionally after the season is over, but if not then I'll start my career using my degree in business communications."
