Â
RALEIGH, N.C. – Defensive end Bradley Chubb, all-purpose back Jaylen Samuels and punter A.J. Cole III have been named to the 2017 All-Atlantic Coast Conference Preseason Football Team, which was announced on Wednesday by the league office. The Wolfpack boasted the third-highest total of players named among the ACC's 14 teams.
Â
The team was selected by a vote of 167 media members that were credentialed for last week's ACC Football Kickoff in Charlotte.
Â
Chubb has also been named to the watch lists for the Bronko Nagurski Trophy and the Chuck Bednarik Award. In addition, he was named to the Athlon Sports Preseason All-American Team. He enters his senior campaign ranked 12th in school history with 34 career tackles for loss. His 16 sacks rank 10th on the Wolfpack career list. He finished the 2016 regular season as the FBS leader in tackles for loss with 22 – the second best mark in school history. Only No. 1 NFL draft pick Mario Williams had more in a single season for NC State.
The offensive MVP of the 2016 Independence Bowl, Samuels ranks sixth in school history with 31 career touchdowns. The prolific scorer has tallied 15 receiving TDs (t-6th) and 16 rushing scores (t-13th). A first-team All-ACC tight end in 2015, he has led the team in receptions each of the past two years and even threw a touchdown pass last season.
Â
Samuels has caught a pass in 28 straight games, the fifth-longest streak in school history, while also averaging 6.7 yards per rush for his career. That would be the school record if he had enough rushing attempts to qualify.  He has also been named to the watch lists for the Paul Hornung Award and Maxwell Award, and like Chubb was named to the Athlon Sports Preseason All-American Team.
Â
Cole has been a standout performer on and off the field for the Wolfpack, starting at punter in all 26 games of his career. He enters his junior campaign with the fourth-best career punting average in school history at 41.5 yards per kick. His 4,854 punting yards rank 11th in the career record books, while his 117 punts tie as the 15th-most in school history.
Â
Cole was also named to the watch list for the Ray Guy Award and the Wuerffel Trophy, and was nominated for the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team for his community service efforts.
